AYSO Kickstart

The first step in the AYSO player pathway, built for 3–4 year‑olds

AYSO Kickstart is our early‑childhood soccer program for 3–4 year‑olds, giving our youngest players a joyful, low‑pressure introduction to the game. In Region 779, Kickstart creates a welcoming space where children explore, move, and build confidence through simple, play‑based activities. It's designed specifically for early learners and grounded in AYSO's Six Philosophies.

What Makes Kickstart Different

  • Child-Centered Play: Activities are designed so children explore and create freely, rather than following adult-driven structure.
  • Sandlot-Style Format: A jamboree experience with nonstop action and small-sided play. No standings, no waiting around - just play.
  • Built on Research: Developed through a national U.S. Soccer project focused on creating the best possible first soccer experience.
  • Families Are Part of It: Parents help on the field and contribute to the welcoming, energetic environment.
  • A Foundation for What's Next: Kickstart builds ball familiarity, group comfort, and confidence so players are ready for 6U team-based soccer.
Kickstart activity
In Region 779, Kickstart replaces our previous Playground program and brings our 5U players under one unified, intentionally designed experience. Every child, regardless of age or experience, begins with the same joyful, welcoming entry point into the AYSO family.

Region 779's Approach to Kickstart

In Region 779, Kickstart is designed to be simple, welcoming, and easy for families to join. We want young players to enjoy the game, grow in confidence, and build a strong foundation before moving into 6U soccer.

Parents choose Kickstart because it:

  • Feels welcoming and low-pressure
  • Fits into modern family schedules
  • Focuses on fun, development, and child ownership
  • Builds confidence instead of stress
  • Is run by an organization they trust
  • Encourages parent participation and support

For many children, Kickstart is their first organized activity, and the program is designed to make that experience positive and memorable.

Development

Kickstart creates a strong foundation for future soccer participation by:

  • Introducing basic ball familiarity and movement
  • Building comfort in a group play environment
  • Encouraging listening, sharing, and simple directions
  • Supporting a confident transition into team-based soccer
The goal is not to rush development, but to help every child grow at their own pace and build long-term enjoyment of the game.
